Rekabentuk logo ini diilhamkan dari Jalur Gemilang sedang berkibar yang
merupakan bendera kebanggaan rakyat Malaysia. Kibaran Jalur Gemilang
melambangkan semangat kecintaan rakyat pada negara.

Jalur merah dan putih digayakan dalam bentuk angka lima manakala bentuk
bulan dan bintang dijadikan angka kosong yang mana ia menjadikan angka 50
yang menjadi tonggak utama logo ini sempena ulang tahun kemerdekaan ke-50.
Bahagian di hujung angka 5 terus disambungkan pada stigma bunga raya yang
merupakan bunga kebangsaan Malaysia. Pada stigma itu diletakkan lima titik di
hujungnya yang bermaksud lima prinsip Rukun Negara yang menjadi amalan
setiap rakyat Malaysia.

Bentuk dasar logo adalah bulat yang ‘italic/slanted’ ke kanan. Bentuk ini adalah
dinamik yang memberi maksud kemajuan yang pesat yang dialami oleh negara
Malaysia sejak 50 tahun mencapai kemerdekaan.

Bentuk bulat juga bermaksud rakyat Malaysia berbilang kaum yang bersatu
dalam mencapai nikmat dan kemajuan sepanjang 50 tahun usia kemerdekaan.
Warna merah dan putih melambangkan keseluruhan rakyat Malaysia. Warna
biru bermaksud perpaduan yang dijalinkan oleh rakyat. Manakala kuning
adalah melambangkan ketua negara, Yang di-Pertuan Agong dan juga
bermaksud kegemilangan yang dikecapi semenjak 50 tahun usia kemerdekaan
Malaysia.

Media Asked To Report More On Merdeka

PUTRAJAYA, March 5 (Bernama) -- The media has been asked to provide wider coverage on the Merdeka celebrations this year to ensure Malaysians get a complete picture of the celebrations and the changes to be made in the celebrations.

Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Utama Rais Yatim said some sections of the media had not given a wide enough coverage in the past.

Rais, who is also the Chairman of the Steering Committee for the celebrations, said a secretariat for the 50th Merdeka celebrations was formed to ensure complete information were passed on to the media.

This year's celebration concept will differ from last year's which was based on thanksgiving and achievements.

In contrast, this year's celebrations would focus on thanksgiving and an assessment of the independence after 50 years, he said, adding that the committee would seek the cooperation of the Internal Security Ministry to enable the media to cover the events fully.

He was speaking to the media after launching the logo and slogan for the 50th Merdeka celebrations here, Monday.

The slogan, `Malaysiaku Gemilang' would be the theme replacing the Keranamu Malaysia which was in use for the last seven years.

Rais said the programmes and activities were aimed at forming a new mindset to spur Malaysians to even greater achievements.

Fifty documentaries and TV productions would be prepared for use by television stations while special programmes for students would also be developed.

"Political or security veterans and Commonwealth figures would also be featured," he said.

Earlier, he gave away prizes to winners of the logo competition in conjunction with the celebrations.

Part-time lecturer Nor Azian Hasan was first-place winner in the competition and received RM10,000 as the prize.

Meanwhile in SEREMBAN, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage would allocate RM3 Million for the rehabilitation of the historic Secretariat Office in front of Wisma Negeri, here.

Speaking to reporters after attending the monthly gathering of state and federal staff here, today, he said the Menteri Besar's Office would be relocated to the building.
